What is 'Breakcore'?
People love to argue about what breakcore is. or isn't. or what it's even called.
Generally speaking, breakcore is seen as an evolved, hybridized form of electronic music.
...or some people see it as complete mindless trend music for inexperienced musicians.
Talk about it.

It varies widely in actual sound or format of composition from artist to artist,
but some qualities are frequent throughout.

Characteristics

Breakcore tracks are usually have a high tempo, whether the track sounds fast or not.
many tracks contain audible or processed samples.

Usual (if you can even say that) drum percussion seem to be breakbeats sliced into individual hits,
then re-sequenced as if it were a drum kit.

Many types of bass or basslines can be found. bass frequencies are usually low-end sub bass.
the basslines are typically rolling jungle or warbling drum and bass lines, sometimes half tempo.
Anything fierce.

Breakcore is an aggressive style of music, much faster than typical electronic music, sometimes utilizing irregular time signatures.
Hard kicks, distorted basslines, erratic and spastic drum breaks. Breakcore doesn't adhere to many compositional rules-
it is more based on a set of ideas (or feeling) than any rigid structure, similar to jazz or punk music.

Mostly made on cheap or free software, and now mostly distributed via internet web sites and [soulseek]

History

a magic robot high on secret chemical made this and released it all under pseudonyms. anyone saying else is lying.

The history of the genre is constantly under (semi)dispute, (since the word "Breakcore" means many different things to different people)
we don't even attempt to cover it. fuck it. way too much drama when people try to benchmark who was the first asshole to record a fart.
anyway, that said, the history can be read about on the [Wikipedia breakcore] article.
This site does not focus on breakcore's past- only it's present and future.

opinion:
breakcore is the response to the negative aspects of other genres of electronic music, ie-
the vapidity of electronica, repetition and cliche of jungle and gabba, and the chinstroking wankery of IDM.

While many breakcore artists feel themselves to be in rebellion to music standards,
tracks are still to hit hard for your headphones or for the party floor.
breakcore emphasizes creative deconstruction of breaks, along with non-standard, or sometimes (ALWAYS) tongue-in-cheek use of samples.

Artistry and style is key. An understanding of music helps, but isn't required.

...Why? Wikipedia is a very useful tool for connecting artists with new listeners, and listeners new artists.
However, many find Wikipedia to be edited largely by people who aren't actually ... 'In The Know' about the categories they edit.
what does this mean? well, odds are if you've ever tried to add anyone not totally huge to a music or artist list, someone deleted it.

we hold all artists and musicians on equal platform of respect, and believe that the connectedness of both the new and old is vital to the growth of this field we share.
basically- everyone starts somewhere.
it sucks to start out, not knowing what to even study, stumbling along- slowly learning.
the faster everyone stops sucking, the better everyone's music experience.
